Though this year, as the exam has not been conducted, the final result will be based on CAT scores and Essay Writing, Personal Interview (PI), Group Discussion (GD).

Cancellation of IIFT EXAM 2024

The IIFT 2024 exam has been canceled, and admissions will now be based on CAT 2023 scores. This decision, announced on August 10, 2023, marks a shift in the admission process where, starting in 2024, only CAT scores will be considered for entry into IIFT. Previously, the IIFT Exam featured four sections with 110 questions, with results typically announced in January, either in the third or last week.

For IIFT 2024 admissions, CAT 2023 scores will be crucial. The CAT exam is scheduled for November 26, 2023, with results expected in either the last week of December or the first week of January. This earlier release of CAT results will enable IIFT to expedite the shortlisting of candidates and complete the final selection process much sooner than usual, which traditionally extended into May or June.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected for IIFT admission based on their CAT 2023 exam scores. The IIFT admission process includes Essay Writing, a Personal Interview (PI), and a Group Discussion (GD). Since 2021, the institute has conducted extempore and PI online. Those who qualify based on their entrance exam scores are invited to participate in Essay Writing, PI, and GD, which takes place in February. The final selection for admission will be announced in July 2024.

The selection process for admission to IIFT includes the following stages:

Writing Skill Assessment

In the Written Ability Test (WAT) round, candidates are given a topic and asked to express their thoughts in about 200 words. They are grouped into sets of eight, with each group receiving a topic related to business, economics, politics, or society. This round lasts for 20 minutes, comprising 5 minutes to think and 15 minutes to write. The focus is on articulating opinions clearly and directly. It’s important to be concise and address the topic straightforwardly. Note that the WAT was not conducted during the COVID-19 years.

Group Discussion/Extempore

In the Group Discussion (GD) round, a group of 8-10 candidates is given a topic to discuss. The session begins with each candidate introducing themselves and sharing their opinions on the topic. After everyone has spoken, the discussion is opened up for all candidates to participate. This round has a total time limit of 30 minutes.

If the institute opts for an extempore instead of a GD, candidates will need to speak on a given topic spontaneously. They will be expected to present a logical and convincing argument, addressing various aspects such as pros and cons.

Personal Interview

The Personal Interview (PI) is a personality assessment round where candidates interact with the admission panel. They may be asked questions related to their work experience, education, and other relevant areas. However, the primary focus is on evaluating the candidate’s communication skills, presence of mind, and problem-solving abilities.
