  • The consulting sector led the recruitment with 232 offers, followed by the finance sector with 86 offers, together making up 55.5% of the total hires. Prominent financial institutions such as A91 Partners, BNP Paribas, Franklin Templeton, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Macquarie Group, and Nomura participated. Leading consulting firms like Accenture Strategy, Bain & Co., Boston Consulting Group, Kearney, and McKinsey & Co. were top recruiters in their sector.
  • Sales & Marketing and General Management sectors collectively made up 23.4% of total hires with 52 and 82 offers, respectively, from top recruiters like Aditya Birla Group, Tata Administrative Services, and Vedanta. Additionally, the software services and e-commerce sectors accounted for 18.2% of hires, with major companies like Amazon, Adobe, Flipkart, Microsoft, Navi, Paytm, Salesforce, and Zomato recruiting from the campus.

The placement season concluded with an average annual compensation of INR 35.07 lakh and a median compensation of INR 33.67 lakh.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to IIM Calcutta‘s MBA in India Programme, candidates must meet specific educational requirements as outlined below:

Academic Requirement

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree awarded by a recognized university or educational institution in India.
  • For General category candidates, a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA is required.
  • For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent CGPA is acceptable.
  • The degree should be from a university incorporated by an Act of central or state legislature in India, or other institutions recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Evaluation of Marks

  • The percentage of marks obtained in the Bachelor’s Degree will be calculated based on the grading system of the respective college/university.
  • If grades or CGPA are awarded instead of marks, they will be converted into percentages based on the certified procedure of the college/university.

Integrated Masters or Dual Degree Consideration

  • Candidates with integrated masters or dual degrees completed directly after 12th/HSC will have their marks considered equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • In cases where UG and PG marks are not separated, PG marks will be considered as UG marks for eligibility.

Final Year Candidates

  • Candidates in their final year of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification are eligible to apply.
  • Provisional admission is granted pending submission of a certificate confirming completion of degree requirements by June 30, 2024.

2020-2023 Graduates with No Exam/CGPA

  • Candidates graduating in 2020-2023 from universities that did not conduct exams or award marks/CGPA but only passed or promoted students can apply.
  • A certificate from the college/university confirming this status is required.

Submission of Documents

  • Candidates awaiting graduation results must submit original certificates and mark sheets as soon as available but no later than December 31, 2024.

  • Provisional certificates from affiliated colleges must be accompanied by an authorization certificate from the University.

Verification of Eligibility

  • IIM Calcutta reserves the right to verify eligibility at any stage of the selection process.

Admission Process

Following is the procedure followed during Admission to post graduate courses in IIM Calcutta :

Shortlisting

  • Undergraduate marks are no longer a consideration in the shortlisting process.
  • The CAT 2023 admission cutoff has been adjusted to 85 percentile for the 2024 intake.
  • In the general category, the CAT 2023 sectional cutoff for quantitative ability has been reduced to 75 percentile.
  • Minimum required percentiles for other categories have also been decreased to 65 or below.

Final Selection PI-WAT Round

  • Writing Ability Test (WAT) has been reintroduced for 2024 admissions, now carrying an 8% weighting.
  • Previously, WAT had no weightage due to its absence.
  • The Personal Interview (PI) Round remains the most significant, with a 48% weighting.
  • The weightage assigned to CAT scores in the final selection phase has been scaled down to 30%.
  • The weightage for promoting academic diversity has been raised from 4% to 6%.

Reservations

  • IIM Calcutta will implement the Government of India’s reservation policy for admission to Central Educational Institutions (CEIs), including the allocation of seats as per the provisions outlined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016). 
  • This entails a reservation of 5% of seats for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD), as defined by the Act. A “Person with Benchmark Disability” is one with at least forty percent (40%) of a specified disability, as certified by the appropriate authority. 
  • The Act specifies various disabilities, including but not limited to blindness and low vision, deafness and hard of hearing, locomotor disability, autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, mental illness, and multiple disabilities. 
  • To avail of these reservations, candidates must provide a valid certificate from the relevant Central Government list during the Personal Interview stage.
